and from 25 years ago…

This guy might be holding an informal dance on some recently deceased dude’s grave and it won’t be Charles Napier’s grave.
We found Morris and got the wave height gizmo working again.
Current conditions (3:00 AM) at the Gasaxe Hurricane Observatory in Rockaway Beach are as follows:
In tonight’s press conference, in response to a question about price gouging he said: “it’s not the New York way.”
Oh please.
Watch this. We’re going to bed.

The staff at the Axe Grinder Hurricane Observatory has lost contact with Morris Fink who is observing from an undisclosed location in Belle Harbor.
His phone goes directly to voicemail. If you happen to see a short, stocky, elderly gent wearing coonskin cap wandering the streets of Belle Harbor or Rockaway Park, tell him to call us on either his phone or the handy talkie we gave him.
The current satellite image shows the eye close to the Southern end of the Delmarva Peninsula. An HF radio contact in that area is seeing winds in the 50-60 knot range.
The storm is more than half over land now and is apparently weakening in intensity.
We’re gonna finish this bottle of vodka we’ve been working on and go to bed for a while.

You’re not allowed to bring pets to shelters. That may not mean you have to ride it out at home.
The Axe Grinder has received an unconfirmed report that the Bide-A-Wee in Wantagh (Nassau County) is sheltering pets.

There’s already rain related flooding.
There are vehicle bans in place in NJ.
Mayor Mike advises EVERYONE to stay put.
It’s a good night for some extended bedroom fun. Turn off the TV and put the “R” in CELEBRATE.
The 8pm SITREP -
Current conditions (9:00 PM) at the Gasaxe Hurricane Observatory in Rockaway Beach are as follows:

Tornadoes are not uncommon in hurricane bands and as expected the Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for much of the NYC Metro area and was accompanied by the following mesoscale discussion:
THE TORNADO THREAT ASSOCIATED WITH HURRICANE IRENE WILL CONTINUE TO SPREAD NNEWD ALONG THE MID-ATLANTIC COAST INTO THE LONG ISLAND AREA.
A NEW TORNADO WATCH WILL BE NEEDED ALONG THE COAST OF DE…NJ…SE NY AND ACROSS LONG ISLAND THIS EVENING.
THE CENTER OF HURRICANE IRENE IS CURRENTLY LOCATED ABOUT 300 STATUTE MILES SOUTH OF NEW YORK CITY WITH SEVERAL RAINBANDS EXTENDING NWD ALONG THE COASTS OF DE…NJ AS FAR NORTH AS LONG ISLAND. AT THIS POINT…THE TORNADO THREAT APPEARS TO BE THE GREATEST WITH THE MIDDLE RAINBAND EXTENDING FROM NEAR DOVER OFFSHORE ABOUT 100 STATUTE MILES. CELLS WITHIN THIS BAND APPEAR MORE DISCRETE WITH WSR-88D VWPS SUGGESTING LOW-LEVEL SHEAR IS CURRENTLY MAXIMIZED AROUND 50 KT. LOW-LEVEL SHEAR WILL INCREASE IN SERN NY AS THE BAND MOVES NWD DUE TO THE APPROACH OF IRENE. A FEW TORNADOES COULD OCCUR IN NRN NJ AND SERN NY WHERE A TORNADO WATCH WILL BE NEEDED THROUGH MUCH OF THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD.
